Oldland reserves travel to Winterbourne United in the GFA Senior Amateur Cup on Saturday to face Premier Division opponents in the hope of progressing to the next round.
Winterbourne, like Oldland, have a long history and we go back some way. They did have a few years in the Toolstation Western League before budget restrictions and the costs of hiring and operating the first team from GFA Headquarters at Oaklands Park, Almondsbury led them to withdraw a couple of seasons back. This meant that the Reserves, who had remained at the main base Parkfield Avenue, became the first team and they went back to being a predominantly local football side without the cash constraints of Western League expenditure.
