O's rue missed chances
New look Oldland lost at home on Saturday in an entertaining game watched in front of a healthy crowd - whilst the result was not great the improved performance will have impressed manager Jon Toy.
The O's went into the game missing the still suspended Mitchell Brooks but boosted by recent signings Zak Meadows (Bristol Telephones), Antonio Nurse (Wick) and Will Osborne (Cutters Friday). As an addition to the bench, former Radstock manager Shane smith took the warm-up having joined the coaching staff this week.
The game didn't start well with Oldland going behind after just 5 minutes to a Calum Townsend finish but then had much the better of the first half with several chances arising but being blazed over or pulled wide. Tom in the car park was busier than their keeper at times, retrieving balls that had gone over the fence but the ball just would not go in. The game had a crazy five minutes in the middle of the half as Scott Fear was yellow carded for comments after what he considered a dive from an opponent after his tackle and then was lucky to pick up a second card just minutes later after leaving his foot in when the defender cleared. Oldland did though equalise towards the end of the half, Jamie Symonds causing problems after a corner and an unlucky defender putting the ball in his own net.
Replenished by pork rolls and hot tea the crowd settled down for the second half. It was much the same as the first, fairly even but with Oldland not converting chances. At the back, Meadows looked calm and in control alongside Symonds and the defence was holding firm. Unfortunately though another goal from Townsend and one from Dan Elson saw Ashton & Backwell the victors.
Many thanks to those who attended, it looks like the new look side is bringing bodies back to Castle Road and the juke box was cracking out Motown tunes as the night wore on. We hope to see you all again soon.
