In an end-of-season stalemate, Oldland hit the woodwork three times but couldn't get past a stubborn Warminster defence. The result meant that the O's finished in fourteenth place, level on points with the three teams immediately above them but behind them on goal difference.
The first half started scrappily but improved as the teams got used to a bobbly, hard pitch that hasn't seen decent rain for more than a fortnight now. But Jordan Greenwood's afternoon was a short one as he sustained a suspected broken nose in a collision on seventeen minutes and was replaced by Paul Coles with Josh Dempsey dropping back into centre back.
Coles got in on the action straight away, curling a shot just over from Scott Robson's pass then hitting the post with a snap shot before then seeing a third attempt turned into the side netting by the visiting keeper.
Ali Bamford's trademark long throw almost earned him an assist but after finding Connor Davies, the young striker was a matter of inches over the bar after he turned his defender. Gary Shorney was next to go close with a curling free kick to the near post that the keeper did well to tip over.
Robson's inswinging corner was then headed off the line and it seemed almost inevitable that the O's would score soon but often, their passes would go astray or the final ball would be not quite there.
The Warminster goal was leading a charmed life after the interval with Robson forcing the keeper to tip over a long range free kick and from the subsequent corner, Robson's brilliant delivery came off the front of the crossbar. Shorney then set off on a run, beating four men but his shot lacked accuracy and the keeper dealt with it easily. Coles headed at the keeper from another Robson corner before the third and final time that Oldland hit the woodwork; Davies powered through the Warminster defence but his shot was parried to Coles who smacked his shot against the post.
Later on, Robson's volley at the keeper and Bamford's left footed effort were the last chances of an ultimately frustrating afternoon that could have seen the O's finish in the top half but end up in 14th place.
