Oldland Abbotonians completed a comfortable 4-1 victory over local rivals Keynsham Town at Castle Road.

A three-goal burst in the first half gave the O's a strong advantage and they added a fourth late on before Keynsham pulled a goal back in the last minute. It was Oldland's first win in eight in the League but was fully deserved and a great opening fixture of 2015.

The first half hour was devoid of any real chances for either side with Jason Side's looping header going wide of the post. But all that changed on the half hour mark when oldland scored twice within two minutes to suddenly take a grip on the game.

Side was again involved, heading into the box where Paul Coles touched it on for Ryan Ashwood to lash home a shot from a tight angle into the net. Almost from the kick off, O's gained possession again and Jason Side was there to get on the end of a pinpoint cross to make it 2-0.

Keynsham came back with a Ben Harris effort that was brilliantly tipped over by Jamie Powell and the new keeper then caught a second effort from Liam Robson.

Amazingly on 37 minutes, it was 3-0 with the goal of the game. Gary Shorney burst into the right channel and after looking like he was about to cross, backheeled it to Tom Welling whose first time shot flew into the top corner. It was a superb strike from a narrow angle and visiting keeper Ash Wintle stood no chance.

Powell then spooned a chance from Harris over his bar for a corner from which another ex-Oldland player, Tom Morgan, screwed his header wide of the near post.

Keynsham came out strongly after the break with Morgan going close twice and Harris hitting a 30 yard free kick straight at Powell in the Oldland goal. They then spurned a golden chance to pull a goal back when Pat Davison's shot went way over the crossbar before Morgan's sliced cross forced Powell to back pedal and catch the ball on the goal line.

With seven minutes to go, K's skipper Rob Sheriton was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity when he brought an O's attacker down as "the last man" and Ashwood sent his free kick just over. But the former Keynsham striker grabbed his second and Oldland's fourth on 87 minutes when he tucked the ball over Wintle and into the net in a one-on-one with the keeper.

There was just enough time for K's to grab a consolation when Morgan, looking suspiciously offside, beat Powell but it was too little, too late, as the O's secured their most emphatic win of the season, completing a double over their nearest neighbours.
