A controversial late winner saw Cheddar beat Oldland 2-1 at Bowdens Road.

Adam Jones put the Cheesemen ahead before Scott Robson equalised with a long range thunderbolt. But an 88th minute winner from the hosts' Craig Mawford, a flick header that was cleared off the line but then deemed a goal by the assistant referee, saw Cheddar take all three points in a game dominated by the visitors.

In a bright start by Oldland, their keeper Jamie Powell was a virtual spectator as the O's had several chances to open the scoring. Jack Parker fired wide, Sam Abraham's shot was blocked and Paul Coles' shot was spilled by the keeper just in the first five minutes. Tom Welling then landed a cross shot onto the roof of the net before Josh Dempsey's bullet header was tipped onto the crossbar by Cheddar keeper Kieran Webster.

Welling then tested Webster with a volley that bounced over the keeper but also over the bar but then Cheddar took the lead against the run of play on 22 minutes. On the counter attack, Adam Jones hit a superb rising shot into the net after being played through from midfield.

Jones was looking a threat up top and looked to add to his 26 goals this season with another poked effort that went wide of goal. Yet it was still Oldland who looked the more likely to score and after Webster had saved Parker's volley, the O's finally netted on 36 minutes. A free kick was awarded 30 yards out and Scott Robson drove home the set piece, bypassing everyone in the penalty area.

Dempsey's height and power was causing issues to the wobbly back line of Cheddar and twice he just missed the target with headers. The home side gradually came more into the game with Powell saving well from Ricky Bennett's free kick and skipper George Booth blazing over. Dempsey then saw Webster make a top save from his deflected effort before the keeper then saved his own defender's blushes with a superb tip over after a sliced clearance went wrong.

Callum Ham, scorer of a double in the corresponding fixture last year, shot at Powell who then saved twice from sub Sam Jones, a header followed by a shot on the turn.

Just as it seemed the fair result of a draw would happen, came a late twist. Cheddar swung in a corner that was flicked on by Craig Mawford at the near post. An O's defender cleared it off the goal line and away; while the game carried on, the ball was then pumped back into the box whereby the referee's assistant raised his flag. To the supporters, it looked to be to signal an offside call but then after consulting with the assistant, the referee controversially awarded a goal, a killer blow so late into the game.
