Two goals inside the first eight minutes set up Oldland Abbotonians for a 2-1 win over Roman Glass St George at Oaklands Park today.

Matt Lewton and Haydn Conlan scored early on as Oldland came out of the blocks in superb fashion and although Mikey Golding pulled a goal back in first half stoppage time, the O's held on for a great away win. The victory goes a long way to erasing the memories of last week's 5-1 loss to the same opponents.

O's took no time at all to settle into a pattern of play on the lush 3g surface and took the lead on six minutes. A corner was swung in from the right and Matt Lewton's downward header at the far post was firm enough to beat Glass keeper George Dempsey. And before the home side could think about replying, the O's went two ahead when Haydn Conlan's shot from twenty yards found the back of the net.

Omari Sims found Jordan Greenwood with his shot, the O's defender taking much of the sting out of the shot and Ryan Perry tidied up. Roman Glass pushed for a foothold in the game but both Johnson and Young were well off target.

Greenwood went close for Oldland with a diving header at the near post from Tom Hutton's free kick and Conlan fired a rising shot over the crossbar but right on half time, Roman Glass pulled a goal back. The ball was lost in midfield and played forward to Mikey Golding who slotted home past Perry in the Oldland goal.

Behind at half time to a side near the bottom, Roman Glass came out in the second period determined to ramp up the pressure on the O's defence. During the second half, they forced several corners putting the O's defence under strain but keeper Perry in truth had one of his quieter games. He got down to save a Crossland free kick on 68 minutes before the same player then headed wide from one of the many corners.

The O's had precious few chances in the second period with Lucas Hart's chip easily caught by Dempsey and Paul Comley going close at the near post. Right on time came the biggest scare when Golding's free kick was turned over his own bar smartly by Perry.

The final whistle a minute or two later saw the visitors record their fourth away win of the season and maintain their 100% record on 3g surfaces to boot!

Team: Perry, Smallman, Hutton, Connor, Greenwood, Lewton, Nicholls, Shopland, P Comley, Hart, Conlan.

Subs: Winstone for Lewton, Gregory for Conlan.
