Their poor night was capped by a red card to defender Mike Connor with twenty minutes to go. The bright spots of the evening were the battling performance from the team, the return to the side of Danny Carter after four months out and a debut for youngster Calum Winstone.
After just three minutes, the tone of the night was set when Haydn Conlan's shot was blocked by a defender's hand but the O's claims for a penalty were waved away by the official. On nine minutes, the referee missed an offside flag from one of his assistants and then looked to have lost control of the game temporarily as tackles flew in and words were exchanged.
Former O's attacker Ben Harris went close shortly after with a right footed effort that he pulled wide while at the other end, Joe Goalsworthy let fly with a left foot screamer that went narrowly wide.
Ritchie Chandler hit the crossbar halfway through the half but was ruled offside anyway but the Green Army weren't to be denied and they took the lead just after the half hour mark. Chris Peck was adjudged to have been brought down right on the byline and Anthony Conradi slotted home the penalty past Ryan Perry.
Tommy Hutton shot wide from twenty yards just before half time and Chandler headed past the post for Welton as a good encounter reached half time.
The second half was marred by a series of baffling decisions, some strong tackling and never really caught fire as a match on a bobbly pitch. Mike Connor flicked a header wide but four minutes later, was making his way to the dressing room after receiving a second yellow, and red card for dissent.
Conlan fired over late on but O's grim evening finally ended when Conradi sprang the offside trap and rounded Perry for his, and Welton's, second with eight minutes to go. The last ten minutes saw Carter and Winstone introduced, the former after four months out with an injury and the latter for his first team debut.
