Jordan Yeo's free kick with just ninety seconds remaining was harsh on an Oldland side that had more than matched a top six side for long periods. Having hit the crossbar, had another shot cleared off the line and been denied a clear penalty, the O's can feel extremely hard done by not to have taken anything from the game.
Up against a Cribbs side in the top six but having embarked on a losing streak of late, it was a much changed Abbots side that began well at The Lawns. Ryan Nicholls shot wide on seven minutes before feeding Tom Hutton who fired narrowly past the post.
The first piece of bad luck came on 25 minutes when Scott Hendy's header appeared to go over the line but no goal was given, a decision made more annoying by a Cribbs fan saying it had cleared the goal line. Hutton's follow up was parried well by home keeper Matt Turner.
Then midfielder Tom Smallman's shot from twenty yards skimmed the top of the crossbar and before half time, Hutton pulled his volley wide of the near post.
The second half saw more O's pressure although it certainly wasn't one way traffic. Cribbs winger Jack Kinnerly looked impressive in spells on either flank and ex-Bristol Rovers striker Dave Gilroy provided experience up front. His strike partner Simon Bone went close for Cribbs after the hour with a shot that deflected a foot wide for a corner.
As the game wore on, it looked more like a single goal would settle the result. Oldland sub Lucas Hart looked good after coming on but his two attempts on goal went wide and Josh Dempsey came close to adding to his debut goal last weekend but his left foot shot was saved by Turner.
The game turned on the final few minutes. Smallman's burst into the penalty box was halted when he was brought down by a Cribbs defender but neither referee or assistant saw it as a foul and play went on. Within a matter of minutes, the ball was played forward before being halted again for a Cribbs free kick. Sub Jordan Yeo stepped up and hit a fierce 25 yard shot low into the corner, leaving keeper Ryan Perry helpless.
