A warm welcome to Jordan Matthews

Oldland Abbotonians are pleased to announce that they have brought about the significant signing of 23-year-old Jordan Matthews to the Toolstation Western League First Division club.

Matthews is a centre forward who can also operate in midfield as a winger and is a product of the famed Southampton academy during his youth days.

He has Sydenhams Wessex and Toolstation Western League experience having appeared for Amesbury Town, Bremerton Heath Harlequins, Radstock Town, Devizes Town, Warminster Town and Westbury United.

Matthews said upon signing: “Oldland appealed to me due to the style of football they play. I know some of the lads from previous years and having played under the manager briefly at Radstock Town. I have been impressed with Oldlands' ambitions on and off the pitch, hopefully I can be part of this moving forward.”

Manager Scott Armstrong added: “Jordan is a quick lad for his height and will surprise a few defenders. Jordan has been a target of mine since I left Radstock as he is a proven goal scorer at Western League level when given the right service. Over the summer Jordan wanted a change and chanced his luck in the Wessex league however the travelling is mounting up and I am pleased to have finally secured his signature.

It is hoped that manager Armstrong will be wrapping up the signing of another midfield/forward player from a Toolstation Western League club on Saturday so the club, sitting in joint third place at present continues to grow from strength to strength under the rebuild programme following last season’s disappointments.
