At last night's Senior Club AGM various roles were ratified and a footing for the season ahead put into place.
Outgoing Chairman Derek Jones thanked everyone for their hard work during a difficult season which had been cut short due to the pandemic and all agreed that after a break everyone was looking forward to a fresh start in August.
The usual team reports were dispensed with having been little football played since before Christmas.
Phil Jones was confirmed as Club Secretary taking over from Tom Shepherd and the committee placed on record their thanks to Hengrove Secretary Martin McConachie for his support in shadowing the role and guiding him in the period following Shepherd's departure.
In the Treasurer's Report it was confirmed that despite turnover in the 10 months to 31 march being approximately £24,000 down the club had actually turned a very small profit for the first time in a number of years. This was mainly due to not playing and the reduced/removed bar costs, staff costs, pitch hire fees and utility bills, etc whilst closed. Income was greatly boosted in the period open by the use of volunteers both behind the bar and in the extended kitchen where Kerry Woodman and Louise Cains had been fantastic in taking the hospitality offering to the next level.
New Joint Chairs Clayton Woodman and Steve Cains confirmed that the club extension planning application was in its final stages of approval and it was hoped that the first parts of work could be started fairly shortly after approval, subject to the long awaited lease extension being dealt with to enable the balance of funding to be obtained. They thanked the various committee members, players and former players who had attended the workday the previous weekend and the ground, club and car park was greatly improved.
It was confirmed that due to costs and availability the Seniors and 18s would be training at Castle Road throughout the winter and for the time being this would be on Wednesday nights (6.30) with the Colts training on Thursdays, the Ladies sticking to their external booking for the immediate period.
Members of the junior section who were present expressed an interest in restarting the mini kickers 'first steps' training and this was well received with hopes that it is in place fairly shortly.
In summary, a funny old year but we have kept our health and safety and we look forward with great excitement.
