A disappointing end to pre season for the O’s today as they went down to a 3-1 home defeat to last seasons Somerset County League Winners Frome Town.
In truth a slow start ultimately cost Oldland as they found themselves 2 down after just 15 minutes. The O’s looked at times a shadow of the team that played so well on Tuesday night. After going 2 down so early it was always going to be an uphill battle to salvage something from the game but in a game in which Oldland had 7 players at 17 years and younger it was a good experience and learning curve. And with defender Esme Griffiths and winger Coren Jones making their debuts the O’s could be forgiven for not quite gelling.
The second half performance was an improved one with nothing between the teams,if anything it was the O’s that created the better chances despite frome going further ahead just before the hour mark.
It was an excellent penalty from captain Nicky Hawkins Hoare on 75 minutes after a Frome handball in the box that gave Oldland their consolation with Hoare finding the top left corner.
All attentions will now be focussed on next weeks league opener away to Cheltenham Town Development in what will prove to be a tough test.
