First Team manager Scott Armstrong has continued to try and secure new signings ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Midfielder Joe Walters (Pictured bottom right of photo) becomes the next player to commit to Oldland Abbotonians for the 2017/18 season. Joe made 48 appearances in total last season scoring 8 goals in the process at Bishop Sutton and scooped the Managers player of the year award at their presentation evening. Joe is a ball playing midfielder who likes to create patterns of play and make something happen. Joe has experience in playing in the Toolstation Premier Division having featured for both Hallen FC and Brislington fc. Joe was also part of the successful Tytherington Rocks side which won the Hellenic First Division West under Gary Powell (Now coach at Paulton Rovers).

31-year-old goalkeeper Chris Manns (Pictured top right of photo) has agreed terms to sign for Oldland Abbotionans fc for the 2017/18 season and will make the switch from Bishop Sutton FC. Chris will come into the squad and compete for the number 1 shirt making healthy competition at the club. Chris featured 45 times last season in all competitions and had a terrific season between the sticks earning a glowing reputation within the league. Chris won the players player award at Bishop Sutton for the 2016/17 season which again shows the type of character I am looking to bring to the club. Chris has plenty of Western League experience having play for Keynsham Town, Corsham Town and Odd Down FC.

Defender Luke Lecrass (Pictured bottom left of photo) has agreed terms for the 2017/18 season. Luke has Western Premier division experience having featured for Cadbury Heath during the 2015/16 season. Luke possesses great energy and will get up and down the wing whilst in the full back position. Luke can also play in the midfield and featured several times in a more advanced role last season. Luke featured 45 times last season and very rarely misses a game. As well as offering Premier Division experience Luke also knows what it is like to win a step 6 league having achieved this with Tytherington Rocks. Luke also works as a school PE teacher and coaches some children of the youth teams at the club.

22-year-old Defender Mason Poole (Pictured top left of photo) has also agreed terms with the club for the 2017/18 season. Mason is of a great footballing pedigree having come through the academy at Bristol Rovers FC. Mason at the age of 22 has great leadership qualities and captained Bishop Sutton last season during his first year with the club. Masons glowing reputation earned him approaches from Southern League clubs which I am pleased to say he has also turned down to sign for us. Mason is a commanding centre half and likes to play from the back which fits our style of play. Mason has also played in the Western League Premier Division at Winterbourne United FC.

Manager Scott Armstrong had this to say on the new signings, ‘’As you can see I’ve had a busy week holding talks with several existing players, trying to find out their intentions for next season. Those who have committed and are returning will be announced shortly. Myself and Millie have made offers for them to return and compete for a place. As you can see from new the lads I have already agreed with they are players which are tried, tested and will add great experience to the squad. They are players which have been on the non-league scene for a long time and played either at a higher level or have achieved promotion out of a step 6 division. I am still talking to a couple of players whom deals are close with in order to strength the squad further and in turn will give us a good core group of lads.''

All the player agreements are subject to the relevant paperwork being completed during the registration window.
