Early errors cost The O's

Oldland came back from Radstock pointless after letting in two early goals which killed the game off. It was a disappointing afternoon but the Blues will pick themselves up and go again with two home games this week, starting against Cheddar this Wdnesday (7.45).

There were full debuts for Mitchell Brooks (Longwell Green) up front and a chance for the supporters to see in action other new signings Luke Tanner (Clifton Torpedos), Cody Vile (Bristol Telephones) and a return to action for Scott Fear and to the bench for Lewis Parker both after spells out injured. Radstock were captained by former O's skipper Jack Metcalf who left in the summer to play nearer home for family reasons and Scott Gregory who has just had a spell out of the senior game.

It was a nightmare start for Oldland as first a long ball was misjudged by keeper Manns and the forward beat him to the ball to head home and then from a corner Metcalf rose at the far post to head down and across goal inside the unmarked post. Oldland were two down and up against it before the game had really taken off. As the half went on they improved with Mitchell Brooks and Scott Fear both linking well down the right hand side, Brooks especially looked a great addition top the squad with his energy and agression constantly chasing down the home defenders. On 25 minutes Oldland pulled a goal back, Brooks picking up just inside the half and sliding Fear in behind the full back for a cool finish. Radstock were still a threat though as Josh Southway and Jamie Symonds both made great challenges to keep them out.

The second half saw another soft goal as almost a replica far post header gave Metcal his second to make it 3-1 on 50 minutes but Oldland redcued their lead on 65 minutes when impressive left back Cody Vile kept the ball in play (yes, he did...) pushed down the wing then cut inside and scored inside the keepers near post. The visiting fans thought that they were in a game now but on 75 minutes Radstock scored the goal of the game, a fantastic move and quick one two's saw the ball laid off to a forward who curled it superbly past Chris Manns into the top left hand corner of the net from 25 yards. Oldland continued trying to push forward hitting both the post and the bar and that cost them in the last minute as a clearance from defence found an opponent who simply volleyed a lob from ust inside his own net down the hill and into the vacant net. That made it 5-2 a score that doesn't reflect the effort and performance put in by The O's in an entertaijning end to end game from both sides. Special mentions to Southway, Brooks and Symonds who were impressive throughout.

As a footnote, the Blues had a decent away support for once with Chairman Jones shipping various members of his crazy gang onto a camper van and into Somerset on their way to a weekend on the lash coast. The Oldland Ultras made themselves heard, mainly in the bar, where they spent much of the game watching Bath Rugby!
