Despite not being at their best the O's returned back from Wiltshire with all three points, giving supporters their early Christmas present.

The O's travelled to the Southbank to face lowly Wiltshire based side Corsham Town FC. The O's squad was without defender Luke Lecrass due to being on his Winter Break, forward Sam Vile suffering with flu and midfielder Shomari Sengor unavailable for selection. O's number two stopper Luke Wilson was also on the treatment table for a bad leg, therefore O's manager Scott Armstrong took his place on the bench. Midfielder Matt Ellery also continued his loan spell at Old Sodbury for match fitness. Defender Josh Southway regained his place in the starting 11 along with forward Sam Makepeace. More positive news was that Winger Tyler Davis, a recent signing from Hallen also recovered from flu regained his place in the squad.

The O's started the match slowly on a good but sticky surface and it was in fact the hosts who started the game well. The host had a couple of early sights on goal which was either off target or comfortable for Chris Manns. O's however did struggle to settle into the game early on and Corsham forward had a great opportunity from just outside the box when Chris Manns tipped the ball onto the bar at full stretch. Corsham's movement and the false striker cause the O's back four a problem for a short period. Again the O's skipper Chris Manns kept the visitors on level terms when he was called into action, this time for a tremendous double save against the Corsham winger. The O's front line did however look threatening every time they went forward. Midfielder Courtney Charles sprayed a delightful pass out wide for Olly Trevarthen to get in behind the Corsham defence, Olly's shot narrowly bobbled agonizingly wide of the far post. O's created another chance from a well worked corner which saw Olly superbly head the ball back across goal for his forward partner Sam Makepeace. Makepeace's shot was magnificently turned away by the host goalkeeper Mark Billingsley in the Corsham goal. The O's did take the lead on minutes when a good set piece saw the cleared ball returned back into the box from Josh Williams which found Olly Trevarthen who smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Midfielder Lewis Parker was also booked in the process for over celebrating to the rival supporters causing a small altercation with a Corsham player. Corsham could and should of equalised 5 minutes later when a cross found an on rushing winger in plenty of space but his shot was well wide of the target. Oldland double their lead when good build up play by the midfield duo of Courtney Charles and Lewis Parker found Josh Williams who then in turn found Olly Trevarthen on the edge of the box. The O's forward delightful rolled his marker and smashed the ball into the bottom corner to increase his and the O's tally for the afternoon.

Although not at their best the O's went into the half time break two goals to the good.

H/T Corsham Town FC 0-2 Oldland Abbotonians FC

The second half performance was a much better performance from Oldland, in complete control of the game the O's defended well allowing their counterparts to have the ball in front of them. Both Oldland full back Joe Walters and Josh Southway defended superbly and equalled their opposite numbers. Such as the confidence of both full backs Joe Walters excellently "nut-meged" his opponent before clearing his lines. Corsham front line and midfielders did have a couple of sighting shot on goal but these found the car park or the tall netting behind the goal with Chris Manns a spectator. Corsham did have a glorious chance to get themselves back into the game when a slip by an O's defender allowed the Corsham striker 5 yards of space, however this was unbelievably closed down by defender Scott Gregory with a goal saving block, putting his body in harms way. With the game looking secure O's decided to rest playmaker Josh Williams ahead of Boxing Day game having only just passed a fitness test prior to the game, winger Scott Fear came into the action. Scott Fear's first involvement was a delightful ball forward who found Olly Trevarthen who squared the ball to forward partner Sam Makepeace. Again with only Mark Billingsley to beat he flawed his effort leaving Makepeace wondering what he has to do to score his first O's goal. This was Makepeace final contribution to the game as he made way for Tyler Davis. It was the two substitutes this time that combined well but neither could get a shot off as the host defence seen off the attack. However both combined well 5 minutes later when Scott Fear released on rushing Courtney Charles who made no mistake of finding the net. With Courtney Charles scoring his second goal in as many games from the midfielder role. The final substitutes of the afternoon was Bath City loanee Shea Barrington-Mannings recovering from flu enough to be involved although not feeling 100% took the place of injured centre half Mason Poole. Due to the injury of Mason Poole this saw an Oldland reshuffle with ever present Lewis Parker seeing the game out at Centre back alongside Scott Gregory and Jack Metcalf. Olly Trevarthen joined Scott Fear and Courtney Charles in midfield whilst Shea took his natural position up front. There for no noticeable chances for either until right at the death Corsham Town grabbed a consolution goal on 90 minutes. A deep cross into the box saw ever reliable goalkeeper Chris Manns lose the flight of the ball and the on rushing Corsham forward head the ball into the empty net.

Full Time Corsham Town FC 1-3 Oldland Abbotionans FC

Man of the match was awarded to forward Olly Trevarthen for his tired less running and his two goals. However the award could of gone to a number of players who put in a good shift for the team.

Manager Scott Armstrong added this on the performance, "It was pleasing to get three points and not be at our best as a team. Individually we was good and some strong performances however as a side we struggled to find a bit of rhythm and cope with their fluid shape. Footballs a strange game as we have played well and lost this season, but today played Ok and won. Our man of the match could of gone to a number of players today on individual performances an example of this is Jack Metcalf playing In a couple of positions during the game. This was also recongised by the travelling supporters as well. Its great to see Courts back amongst the goals with 2 in 2 from a deep position coming onto the ball. I know Mannsy is disappointed not to keep a clean sheet especially after his first half performance but most importantly today was the three points. The boys and the supporters can now enjoy Christmas ahead of our important game against the league leaders".
