O's put in a Dazzling Display on eve of bonfire night

O's travelled down the M5 with defenders Mason Poole, Jamie Gregory missing out through injuries. Midfielder Jack Metcalf still missing out through injury and likely to miss another two weeks. Lewis Parker also missed the trip through work commitments. The O's also left out former club captain Jordan Greenwood who is still in talks to complete a move to Roman Glass. The O's were dealt a late blow with winger Scott Fear failing a fitness test on a thigh injury. New signings Callum Ham and Sam Makepeace came into the squad for selection. Ever present Luke Lecrass was back available following his annual leave. The re-shuffle saw Courtney Charles take up his natural position in the heart of the defence.

The O's started very brightly and never looked back as they took complete control of a game, the score line doesn't do the O's justice for the amount of missed chances and how dominate they was. The facilities and playing surface was with out a doubt one of the best in the league at present with the playing surface in great condition and firm.

The O's first chance came when good build up play in the midfield from Josh Williams and Shomari Sengor saw forward Olly Trevarthen race clear through on goal. Olly with only the goalkeeper to beat saw his shot well saved when perhaps he should of scored. O's next chance came when new signing Callum Ham was giving the Bishops Lydeard full back a torrid time as he dribbled and weaved at him. Callum Ham pulled the ball back for Danny Carter only to see his shot just miss the target. O's thought they'd took the lead when a good pass by Joe Walters found Josh Southway who delivered a delightful cross into the box which saw Callum Ham smash the ball home on the volley, only to be ruled off side. Winger Callum Ham then had a effort go close as he switch wing but his effort sailed narrowly over the bar. Such as the fluidity of the attacking line up saw Danny Carter deliver a delightful cross into the box for Josh Southway to power his header home from 8 yards out. This seemed to spark the hosts slightly as they tried to take advantage of a slip which saw the forward clip the post and a good Chris Manns save.

HT 0-1

Second half started very much the same as the first Oldland were very dominate. Oldland's first effort was from Danny Carter as he picked up the ball on the edge of the box, Carter tried to curl the ball into the top corner only to miss the target. It was the Carter who turned provider to midfielder Josh Williams who saw his effort narrow sail just over the bar. Luke Lecrass at left back then picked up the ball to play a good pass inside to Shomari Sengor who threaded Olly Trevarthen through but he couldn't hit the target and the ball sailed just passed the post. Olly Trevarthen then had another effort when he brought a good pass forward down delightful on his chest to roll the defender. Olly's effort didn't give the build up play nor his control and turn justice as he missed the target. O's introduced Reece John for Josh Southway into the midfield which saw Josh Williams move out to the wing. O's did then double their lead when a great through ball saw forward Olly Trevarthen go through on goal, this time he made no mistake and buried the ball into the corner of the net. Olly ran over to the management to celebrate and show his appreciation to the management who have never doubted his ability during his drought. In the 80th minute Olly Trevarthen then doubled his tally for the afternoon when a thunderous effort from Josh Williams hit the bar. Olly was on hand to pass the ball into the net and take his tally for the season to 7. Oldland could of increased their lead further when new signing Callum Ham drove into the box his pass called a goal mouth scramble, Sam Makepeace had and effort cleared off the line. Oldland again spurred another chance to further increase their lead when forward Olly Trevarthen only had the goalkeeper to beat looped the ball into the gk hands. This unfortunately saw the start of an attack by Bishops Lydeard who winger was arguably their best player, cut inside and saw his delightful effort nestle into the top corner giving Chris Manns no chance. The O's will be disappointed not to have left without a clean sheet and took some of the icing of the cake. However, the O's played superbly and the score line doesn't really do the O's justice for their performance.

FT- 1-3

Man of the Match was awarded to Courtney Charles for a very good display at centre back. In truth man of the match could of been awarded to most if not all of the side for a superb display. The display was also complimented on by the hosts management and committee by saying we are they best side they have played and seen this season.

Manager Scott Armstrong added this on the performance,' I am delighted with the lads they was superb today and did everything we asked. As suggested in the report the score line could of been far greater had we taken our chances. Its great to see the lads bounce back from the defeat yesterday and put ourselves back in the mix. Our man of the match could of gone to pretty much anyone in the squad today. Callum Ham and Sam Makepeace both come into the squad and bonded with the boys straight away. It's great to see Olly end his goal drought as he has worked his socks off lately and kept trying but things just didn't fall for him. The Bishops Lydeard's playing surface was by far the best we have played on which suited us and the facilities are up there with the best in the western league. We have now given ourselves an opportunity by putting ourselves back into the mix albeit there is a long way to go. The next month for us is a tough one but confidence in the camp should be high and we have great ability across the squad going into it.'
