Our recent good form at home continued with another victory against Somerset based side Chard Town.

Another home victory saw The O's maintain third place after a busy first month of the season in a good victory in front of another decent crowd at Castle Road.

Oldland were boosted with centre forward Courtney Charles returning from injury, along with new signing Jamie Gregory and Lewis Parker back in the squad. Our squad look very very good and one which most sides in our league would envy. Manager Scott Armstrong rotated the side once again which saw Joe Walters adopt the Right wing back role with Josh Southway rested. Midfielder Matt Ellery come into the side for his first start at home.

The game started brightly in warm conditions with both sides trying to play on a good surface despite the warm temperature. The first half was very even with Oldland having the most of the play but not producing a huge amount of chances. Striker Olly Trevarthen produced the first shot of the game low down to the goalkeepers left which Jonny Hill dealt with at full stretch to tip around for a corner. Matty Ellery also tested the goalkeeper from distance after a fine dribble through the midfield again this was dealt with comfortably. Oldland number one Chris Manns was very much a spectator only having to deal with a couple of crosses and over hit long balls. The Chard number 9 Benji was a handful making sure our defence never had an easy ride. However, a challenge which both Jordan Greenwood and Scott Gregory enjoyed and dealt with. Olly Trevarthen hit a shot from long distance which the goalkeeper spilled only for no Oldland Abbotonians player not to be following it up. Oldland put a good move together following good inter exchanging passing from Shomari Sengor, luke lecrass and Reece John this saw forward Courtney Charles head off target.

Half time 0-0.

Second half started much the same as the 1st half however the real first chance fell to Chard Town after a great pressure from Benji forcing Captain Jordan Greenwood into a mistake. Benji pulled the ball back to his on rushing striker partner Max Westlake but Oldland number 1 Chris Manns pulled of a great save to keep Oldland level.

Oldland took the lead on 54 minutes good play out wide between Luke Lecrass and striker Olly Trevarthen saw the ball crossed for midfielder Matt Ellery to head. Matt Ellery saw his effort come back off the post and fall kindly for wing back Joe Walters to nug meg the goalkeeper and give the o's the lead.

The o's grew with confidence having broke the visitors down and saw further efforts from both Olly Trevarthen and Courtney Charles well saved. The latter was later replaced by Josh Williams who again saw an effort well saved by the visiting goalkeeper. The O's extended their lead and sealed the game on 63 minutes when good play in the midfield saw midfielder Jack Metcalf break through the opposition back line to go one on one with the goalkeeper. Jack Metcalf cooly opened his body up to roll the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net.

The O's could of extended their lead further however striker Olly Trevarthen couldn't hit the target despite being in a good position. Substitute Connor Davies also saw an effort well block by the Chard defence.

Overall a good performance in the heat and three more points on the board. Oldland Abbotonians first team now have a welcome rest having seen them play Saturday's and mid-week since start of the season something which hasn't happened across all of the league.

Man of the match was awarded to midfielder Matt Ellery.
