It was going so well too.........

Oldland had to settle for a point in a game they appeared to be well on the way to winning after a bizzare last 15 minutes and some confusing decisions from the official. A disappointing end to a game they appeared to be in full control of. Last night's draw at Calne drops us down to fourth ahead of the visit to Sherborne on Saturday.

The game started brightly on a lovely summer's evening after a couple of pints and a cheese and onion roll in the adjoining Bremhill View Social Club (Me, Deano, Dorr and Glees, not the players). Lewis Parker and Jack Metcalfe dropped to the bench as Joe Walters and Shamori Sengor came into midfield for deserved starts. Oldland attacked constantly from the start and took the lead after 10 minutes - having recovered from an early clattering and some treatment, Olly Trevarthen picked up a bouncing through ball and lobbed the oncoming keeper from outside the box. A second almost immediately followed as Courtney Charles put across a low driven cross that flicked off a defender up and over for a corner and after a lot of pressure the next goal did come on 22 minutes. Trevarthen beat the left back and put over a cross that was flicked home by Courtney Charles from close range.

Calne then managed to get back into the match slightly and following a muddled scramble inside the box the loose ball was fired home on 31 minutes by Calne's Billy Gleed to make it 2-1 to Oldland. The O's though continued to impress and attacked constantly, one excellent one-two move between several players down the left hand side led to Charles putting Josh Southway in but he pulled his shot wide as Oldland looked to secure the game before half time.

The second half was a lot different to the first as some loose passing and failure to hold the ball up throughout allowed Calne to come into the game more and more. Josh Williams was unlucky on 66 minutes cutting into the box and lifting a shot over the keeper which flicked off the top of the bar and several chances created by Josh Southway for Trevarthen and Charles but Oldland just couldn't seem to make headway and despite trying to push, Calne having been down and out, started to look dangerous and the game entered a crazy last 15 minutes. The defence with Scott Gregory particularly impressive had their work cut out and Calne seemed to come into it a little more.

After having a penalty appeal turned down at one end Jordan Greenwood was booked for complaining about the ungiven decision on 75 minutes. The game then became slightly niggly as lots of confusing decisions were given and players started to rattle each other over the next ten minutes or so. On 89 minutes Greenwood was sheperding the ball over the goal line and appeared to pull back the forward, a penalty was given but in an even more unreal twist the referee then produced a second yellow and therefore a second sending off in two games for the defender. The decision baffled everyone and in the ensuing arguments Jack Metcalfe was booked before Calne's Mark Dolman struck home the penalty for 2-2. There was still time for one final argument and set to between numerous players after a tackle, which led to Joe Walters and an opponent both given yellow cards in added time before referee Nigel Fisher brought the game to an end and the Oldland players walked off, no doubt confused by the crazy ending and disappointed not to have killed the game off earlier.

In summary, what was a very enjoyable game was partially allowed to drift by the O's not finishing it off and partially by that last 15 minutes when almost everyone was becoming more bemused by the decisions. Good luck to Calne though always a warm, friendly welcome and we wish them the best for the rest of the season.

Man of the Match: Scott Gregory - solid and reliable at the back
