Oldland missed out narrowly after giving themselves a huge mountain to climb.

The O's travelled to Toolstation Western league premier division side Odd Down in high hopes of carrying their league form into the cup.

The 0's were also forced into some major changing for this games as they was without 5 first team regulars. Goalkeeper Chris Manns and New signing and last weeks man of the match Jamie Gregory was also missing through work commitments. Local boy and striker Connor Davies missed the trip with illness. Both Joe Walters and Josh Southway travelled but were unable to feature due to injuries. This meant a recall for Jordan Greenwood at centre half, Jack Metcalf shuffled to right back, Lewis Parker and shomari Sengor come back into the side in midfield and Reece John regained his left back role.

The O's got off to the worse start possible when the opposition forward Cory Simpson delightfully rolled passed Reece John to then turn fire on goal from a tight angle. His cross come shot beat on loan Bath goalkeeper Marcus Price at his near post within 46 seconds of the start. The O's were clearly still not settled and things nearly became worse but some great defending by Scott Gregory allowed the o's some breathing space. Things did get worse for the 0's on 13 minutes a long clearance from the Odd Down defence saw striker Cory Simpson chase defender Jordan Greenwood down. When Jordan seem to have the situation isolated and under control the busy forward muscled Jordan Greenwood off the ball and calmly slot the ball under the advancing Marcus Price for 2-0.

Oldland then grew into the game and created a couple of chances themselves. Fine work out wide by forward Olly Trevarthen saw his cross headed goal ward by Luke Lecrass arriving late at the back post, but home goalkeeper Ed Baldy gathered at the second attempt. Olly Trevarthen then had a chance of his own after a delightful ball out to josh Williams by Lewis Parker. Josh Williams then got by his man to cross the ball into the box only to see Olly's shot blocked well by the defender. Odd down did create a couple of half chances in the first half and Marcus Price tipped a shot over the bar from a long range effort from Asa White.

H/T 2-0.

The second half was very different from the first half for the O's. Oldland decided to take the game to their hosts and finally woke up. Oldland saw their first chance created again by josh Williams out wide who played a good ball across the box and all it needed was a touch from the on rushing Courtney Charles however the ball evaded him and the recovering defender. Oldland did get their reward when Courtney Charles turned Luke Hall-Cousins who hauled him over in the box. Up stepped Lewis Parker who place the ball firmly in the corner to give the O's a lifeline. Goalkeeper Marcus Price had to be at his best when a corner by Odd down was sliced towards his own goal by Jack Metcalf. Marcus pawed the ball around his near post for another corner. The hosts then had another chance which saw Kane Simpson's shot saved by Marcus Price.

Oldland though applied some good pressure second half and a long clearance saw Olly Trevarthen one vs one with the defender as he raced forward he squared the ball to striker partner Courtney Charles but his effort was well blocked by the recovering defender. Substitute Matt Ellery who replaced Josh Williams saw his effort go high and wide after the ball fell to him from a corner. Odd down then hit the post with a thunderous drive with goalkeeper Marcus Price well beaten. In the 90th minute after a chance at the other host end, the hosts wrapped up the game with Oldland pushing players forward. Cory Simpson wrapped up his hat trick when going clean through on goal to place the ball to the side of Marcus Price into the net. This wasn't the end of the drama Oldland had the chance of their to pull a goal back. Courtney Charles went through one vs one with Ed Baldy in the hosts goal. It was the latter who prevailed with a superb save.

F/T 3-1.

Oldland's man of the match was Scott Gregory for a superb all round performance showing heart and desire.

Oldland will rule their poor first 20 minutes which ultimately cost them. However, a great recovery from the lads as they full deserved to take the hosts to extra time after their poor start.

The O's now turn their attention back to the league when they host Warminster Town Fc on Saturday 30th September.
