A win is a win....

Oldland continued their fine pre season start with a win over Somerset County League side Frome Town Sports last night in a match that wasn't pretty but gave the squad a good run out

Showing several changes from the weekend Oldland had most of the early exchanges and on 15 minutes the referee blew for a free kick before realising that the trip was inside the box and awarded Oldland a penalty, Garfield White stepped up and smashed the ball to the left corner for a well deserved lead. Whilst continuing to press, nothing really came of the rest of the first half there, were one or two chances for Josh Williams who was looking lively and threatening in his new 'Number 10' role whilst Garf was having an interesting evening, he missed another penalty in the first half as well as blocking an incoming shot but continued to show strength and power. Andy Summers put in a strong effort in central midfield too before being replaced at half time as the side was shifted around a little.

Manager Scott Armstrong wasn't happy with the first half performance and made it known that more was expected in the second half. The second goal wasn't long coming as a rebounded 48th minute effort fell to Garfield White who once again powered the ball into the net, this time from the corner of the box (see match photos, it had already passed the camera before we clicked - must get a better camera!).

For the remainder of the match, Oldland had most of the play and several chances went begging but there were promising signs, some great crosses from Josh Southway and left wing back play from Luke Lecrass especially and an assured first pre season performance from Ashley Bernard at the back. Josh Williams continued to look lively and could have had a couple, his efforts blocked by the keeper and Southway hit the bar from distance too before a low cross from him was turned into the net by an unlucky Frome defender on 85 minutes for 3-0. Almost immediately an error and some confusion lead to a goal from the visitors and that was how it stayed, 3-1 to Oldland.

Overall, a win, but could do better was the view from the management. Still places up for grabs before the season starts. Nice to see a decent crowd again too.
