Oldland Abbotonians FA Cup run is over after losing 3-2 to Premier Division side Brislington.

The O's had fought back from a goal down to lead 2-1 with goals from David Stone & Luke Bryan. But Brislington produced a come back of their own, winning late on when Frank Gingell completed his hat trick and they will now host Hamworthy United in the 1st Qualifying Round in a fortnight's time.

After Wednesday night's goalless draw at home to Chippenham Park, the O's made three changes for the tie. Scott Thomas was replaced by Ashley Bernard in the heart of the defence while both Scott Robson and David Stone came off the bench to replace Matt Curnock and Sam Abraham.

Some persistent drizzle made the early exchanges a little fraught with a slippy pitch contributing to some misplaced passes. Gingell gave Oldland an early warning with a 2nd minute shot that went wide and Tyrone Fudgell went into the referee's book on four minutes for a late challenge.

Oldland twice went close before the opening Brislington goal. Bryan slipped his marker and shot low towards goal but Bris keeper Chris Blammon bundled it over the byline for a corner; from the flag kick, Robson headed narrowly over the bar.

It was from a corner that Bris opened the scoring on 26 minutes. Mike Rimmer swung in a right footed inswinger and Gingell was unmarked and allowed to score on the half volley. Gingell was way off target shortly after as was Jack Smyth, both shots ballooning over the bar.

Just as it looked like the visitors would go in to the break ahead, Oldland equalised. Bryan got in a shot that was deflected, then superbly stopped by the feet of Blammon; his follow up shot was blocked by a hand and ref Spencer McNaught pointed to the spot. David Stone stepped up and coolly despatched the penalty to make it 1-1.

The second half almost began with Bris going ahead again, Smyth thumping a shot against the post and Fudgell blocking the follow up. At the other end, the O's looked to have taken the lead on 51 minutes when Lewis Parker's free kick was glanced home by Robson but it was ruled offside even though the O's midfielder had clearly come from behind the Bris defender.

After Fudgell had tested Blammon with a low, skidding effort Oldland took the lead just before the hour mark. Bryan was set free straight through the Bris defence and he kept calm before slotting past Blammon to make it 2-1.

Alex Lambert was becoming more influential down Brislington's left flank and he was twice denied by Josh Dempsey, the first after a strong run & the second time, the keeper smothered his shot. But as time ticked on, more goals looked likely and on 70 minutes, the equaliser came, once again from a corner. Gingell swept the ball home for his second of the match.

Parker sent a deflected chance spinning over the bar and from the corner, Ash Bernard sent a screamer just wide of the left upright from 25 yards out. Dempsey then had to be alert to deny Neikell Plummer from point blank range, the Bris striker shanking his follow up shot well wide.

Oldland's last chance came with eight minutes to go. Gary Shorney's shot was pushed away by Blammon on the angle but Jordan Greenwood couldn't pull the ball back far enough and his effort hit the side netting. There was one more opportunity late on and it was to prove the winner. Gingell sprinted through from halfway and finished well past Dempsey to complete a hat trick and set his side up with a home tie versus Hamworthy United in the next round.
