Top scorer Asa White took his season's tally to 34 with a goal in each half & Rhys Hickery along with sub Marcus Maggs also netted in a match that sees Hengrove stretch their lead at the top to four points. For O's, it was their fourth successive defeat, a sequence they'll be keen to halt when bottom side Almondsbury UWE visit this weekend.
After Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Westbury, it was a very unfamilar Oldland line up to take on the leaders. Karl Finn was unavailable in goal so Josh Dempsey dropped back to replace him. There was no Lewis Parker, Jason Side, Callum Hinder and Owen McCallum either so in came Danny Carter and there were debuts for defenders Matthew McCall and Gerard Robinson. Andy Summers also debuted in midfield with John Scorrer coming in for his second game of the season at the back.
Hengrove came out of the blocks like a train and forced four corners in the first five minutes and then Asa White's header glanced off the bar in the seventh minute. The prolific midfielder wasn't to be denied for long though as on fifteen minutes, a poor clearance from the back fell to him 35 yards out and he hit the perfect shot that was always going away from Dempsey's despairing dive.
O's matched their visitors for the next twenty minutes but fell further behind on 36 minutes when Rhys Hickery fired home from the edge of the penalty box. The hosts tested keeper Carl Bush for the first real time just before the break when Carter's effort was saved.
After the break, both Carter and Connor Davies also made Bush work while Dempsey saved from 22-goal striker Jack Fillingham. But the third goal was coming and with twenty minutes left, it came via the head of White. It was his 34th goal of an extraordinary season, and his 13th in the last ten games.
Hengrove managed the game out well from then on with only the odd corner giving Oldland any hope of a consolation. With two minutes left, a corner was recycled back into the box and sub Marcus Maggs steadied himself before slotting home to make it 4-0.
