Having won 3-0 at Zembard Lane in October, Paul Down's side looked set to repeat the scoreline after goals from James Boyland, Luke Jackson and Bradley Miles put his side three up. Gary Shorney's late strike was a mere consolation for Oldland who stay in 18th position in the division.
After Tuesday's win at Portishead, joint managers David Stone & Josh Dempsey made three changes to the starting XI. Jason Side and Sam Hippisley were out with David Saffa dropping to the bench. In came Lewis Parker, Jordan Richards and Stone himself.
The first twenty minutes saw both sides struggle to adapt to a claggy pitch and there were no clear chances at all. But the next five minutes more than made up for the lack of excitement with two goals including a penalty kick, both going the way of Chard. Boyland, a thorn in the side of Oldland all afternoon, struck first on 22 minutes, firing into the corner of the net and then he was brought down in the box three minutes later, Jackson stroking home the penalty with ease.
Ryan Dunn limped off with a hamstring injury straight after and it was looking like a long afternoon for the hosts but in fairness, they had the clearest two chances of the rest of the first half. Ashley Bernard headed over from a Parker free kick and then Danny Carter's cross shot dipped wide of the far post.
In the second half, it took just fifteen minutes for Chard to increase their lead but it came after Oldland's Carter and Dempsey had chances that were easily gathered by visiting keeper John Hill. And it was that man Boyland again, cutting in from the right and unleashing a shot that Shaun Semmens parried but Bradley Miles followed up and slotted home.
Carter and Dempsey had chances to pull a goal back, the latter seeing his goalbound header cleared off the line but eventually the improved second half Oldland performance bore fruit when Gary Shorney scored his sixth goal of the season. His shot from 20 yards was only partly saved by Hill and ended up in the net.
Late on, Boyland rifled a shot over and Carter's left footed effort was saved by Hill but in the end, three points for Chard was a fair result, especially based on the first half showing. Oldland now travel to Radstock Town next Saturday, hoping to restart a decent run of results till the end of the season.
