Oldland roared into a two goal lead inside eighteen minutes through Danny Carter and Owen McCallum. The O's were good value for the lead that they held until the final twenty minutes when Jack Bryant and Jack Taylor netted to grab a point for the grateful hosts.
Buoyed by winning the January "Team of the Month" award, O's management duo of David Stone & Josh Dempsey made just two changes to the side that snatched a late point against Ashton & Backwell last Saturday. One change at the back saw Mike Bristow deputise for Sam Hippisley while in midfield, Lewis Parker's absence allowed Connor Davies to return. There was also a place on the bench for new signing David Saffa.
Despite there being sixteen places and a whopping thirty two points between the clubs at the start, Oldland settled much the quicker and were by far the better team early on. Owen McCallum hit the post in the fourth minute before Danny Carter put Oldland ahead on seven minutes. His shot from the edge of the box took a nick off a Wellington defender's leg and looped past keeper Connor Sidley-Adams for his fifth goal in seven games since rejoining Oldland.
Carter then was on the end of a poor tackle from Jon Rawlings, who earnt the first of eight yellow cards in the match. Within three minutes, the visitors were celebrating again when this time Owen McCallum's shot was deflected past Sidley-Adams, his seventh goal in eleven games for the club.
Glen Wright was then unfortunate to not pull a goal back, miskicking in front of goal before then hitting a rising shot just over the crossbar as Wellington finally started showing glimpses of the form that has seen them top the division.
After the half time break, McCallum went close with a left foot shot that Sidley-Adams did well to turn away for a corner from which Ashley Bernard's hot was blocked by the keepers feet. Jack Bryant's looping header went over but the O's were still creating chances at the other end with Sidley-Adams diving at Cash Vinall's feet and saving from Carter's shot.
Jack Knowlson came on for Gary Shorney on 67 minutes but the next goal came at the other end and what a strike it was. Bryant collected the ball on the right hand side of the box and hit an unstoppable drive past Ollie Fowler and into the net. Sub Ian Bellinger saw his shot deflected for a corner and on 78 minutes, the pressure told when Fowler saved a long range effort but Jack Taylor snaffled the rebound to make it 2-2.
The final twenty minutes, while end-to-end, also saw five bookings as both sides looked for a winner but in the end, it will prove a better point for Oldland who are now unbeaten in six matches, having scored seventeen times in that run.
Next up in a run of difficult looking fixtures is Hengrove Athletic on Wednesday night at Castle Road, kickoff is at 7.30pm.
