The goal, nine minutes from time, came ten minutes after David Stone had seen his spot kick saved by the Lillywhites keeper Steve Allison. It means the O's miss the chance to return to the top six and instead, remain in mid table after a second successive home league defeat.
Saturday had seen an impressive 4-0 win over Lymington Town in the FA Vase and there were four changes to the starting eleven that set up a 2nd Qualifying Round clash with Horndean. New teenage defender Sam Hippisley, signed from Yate Town earlier in the day came in for Ashley Bernard; Josh Dempsey's injury kept him out so Craig Beavis came in for his second start of the season while Tyrone Fudgell and David Stone were replaced by Matt Curnock and Scott Robson, the latter returning after a one game ban.
The first half was no great spectacle with the visitors hitting the bar and keeper Allison producing a great save to deny an Oldland attacker. After the break, the game got a little messy with four yellow cards in ten minutes, two for each side. Ali Bamford tested Allison with a low left foot shot and Curnock hit a spectacular volley from distance that went inches wide.
Curnock was involved in the main incident of the second half on seventy minutes. The tall midfielder broke into the box before being brought down on the angle. Ref Michael Pope pointed to the spot and David Stone, who had only just come on as a sub for Gary Shorney, stepped up. But his penalty was comfortably saved by Allison and the miss was to prove costly later in the game.
Tommy Hutton replaced Tom Morgan on 75 minutes and he tried his luck with a vintage Hutton volley that was blocked after a corner. Calne then went mighty close on 80 minutes when a curling goalbound effort was brilliantly headed off the line by the retreating Robson.
The reprieve was to last less than two minutes though as striker Stuart Windsor poked home from close range on 82 minutes to give his side the lead. Jordan Greenwood had the only Oldland chance to equalise but his header was cleared off the line and the O's were left to reflect on the continuation of a sequence that has seen a win/loss/win/loss/win extended by another defeat.
On Saturday, Oldland are home again for the tenth time already this season when they entertain Bishop Sutton, fresh from a 3-2 win over Chard Town in midweek.
