O'S BROWNED OFF AS MATT MAKES HIS MARK

A 39th minute winner from former Oldland player Matt Brown was all that separated the sides in a competitive local derby last night.

Brown pounced on a defensive mix up to score the only goal for Keynsham who made it four wins and four clean sheets in a row and went top of the table as a result.

Oldland made three changes to the side that beat Westbury United 4-1 on Saturday. Josh Dempsey came in for Craig Beavis between the sticks, David Stone replaced Ryan Madge in midfield and with striker Tom Morgan absent, Luke Bryan returned up front.

The first half was pretty even steven with opportunities for both sides few and far between. The visitors missed the chance to grab an opener on eighteen minutes with a shot that went wide while former Keynsham player Matt Curnock was robbed of the ball by a good defensive clearance as he was about to pull the trigger.

Luke Bryan also went close but as the half time break approached with the scores still level, a mix-up in the back four allowed ex-O Matt Brown to take advantage and net his eighth goal of the season.

The second half produced more chances for Oldland but the game wasn't really allowed to keep flowing with constant stoppages in play for lectures and a flurry of yellow cards. Bryan fired over after Curnock laid the ball back to him and Brown also volleyed over after a deep cross found him at the back post.

Oldland were deprived of a certain penalty when a Keynsham defender clearly handled in the box but nothing was given and the injustice was then doubled with a yellow card as the visitors broke on the counter. Lewis Parker, on as a sub, hooked wide from a long Ashley Bernard throw and another sub, Joel Hartley, found the side netting at the near post from Gary Shorney's cross; those on the far side celebrating prematurely as the net rippled.

The fussy officiating, along with time added on after a couple of brawls sparked by frustration from both sides, generated eight minutes of stoppage time and Oldland came as close as they did all night to scoring when Dempsey, up for a corner, saw his goalbound header cleared off the line. A draw would have been the fairest result with man-of-the-match Ashley Bernard (pictured) and his defence coping well aside from the solitary error.

So four wins in a row for Keynsham sees them sit atop the league; Oldland drop to ninth spot just five points off Keynsham. Both sides take a break from league action this weekend with home ties in the FA Vase, the O's entertaining Lymington Town for the second season running.
