Oldland Abbotonians missed three penalties as they went out of the FA Vase by the odd goal to Wessex League Premier side Lymington Town.

O's spurned two chances in the first half when Tom Morgan saw his penalty saved by Lymm keeper Stuart Williamson who then kept out the retake from Jordan Greenwood. In an ironic twist, Lymington then snatched the win right on full time with a epnalty of their own but even then, the O's had a third chance from twelve yards from which Jack Parker was also denied.

A strong looking Oldland side took to the field, just missing Sam Abraham (broken leg) and Ryan Ashwood, but otherwise at full strength. And it was Oldland who had the better of the first half. The first twenty minutes were quiet but then a chance each livened the game up. Gary Shorney volleyed over from Morgan's long ball and Jack Odam headed wide for the Hampshire side.

Chances continued at either end with Ritchie shooting at Josh Dempsey and then Zac Mouland seeing the big keeper push his effort onto the post. Morgan flicked a header wide for the O's while Ryan Dunn's left foot thunderbolt was always too high.

On 38 minutes, Oldland had the perfect chance to take the lead when Shorney was brought down in the box. Morgan stepped up but saw his effort saved by Williamson, diving to his left. The assistant referee though had spotted Williamson coming too far off his line and ref Tyler Ganfield awarded a retake. This time, Jordan Greenwood's left foot shot was also blocked by Williamson.

Will Tickle was also denied by Dempsey's save onto his post, a guide to how the second half would unfold with Lymington coming more into the game. Although Dunn and Morgan were also off target with efforts and Greenwood headed into the side netting, Dempsey was the busier of the two keepers parrying a Warren Kenna free kick and pushing another header away.

Into extra time, and Morgan came inches away from giving his side the lead but his 25 yard shot from the angle came off the inside of the post and he then volleyed well wide a minute later. Dempsey then produced his best save of the match when he tipped a shot from Mouland over the crossbar.

The clock ticked into stoppage time in extra time and there was huge late drama when the official awarded a penalty to the visitors for a foul in the box. Darren Ritchie stepped up and took a quality penalty to seemingly send his side into the first round proper.

But there was even more to follow as from the final attack of the match, Oldland won a second (or third) penalty again after a foul challenge in the box. This time, Jack Parker slotted a left footer towards the corner but incredibly, Williamson guessed right for a third time and saved his side from a Tuesday night replay.
