Karim Rendall scored a hat trick as Oldland returned to winning ways with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Ashton & Backwell.

The O's twice came from behind to record the victory and astonishingly, won with stand in keeper Scott Robson shining between the posts after a late withdrawal. The win failed to move Oldland up the table but represents a welcome return to form ahead of the final eight games of the season.

Wednesday's defeat at home to Corsham Town was a disappointing one and the lineup that started at the Lancer Scott Stadium was a much changed one. Josh Dempsey and Jordan Richards were unavailable and Tom Morgan, along with Josh Williams, took their places on the bench. In came Ashley Bernard and Tom Welling with returns for Karim Rendall after suspension and Paul Coles.

Regular keeper Ashley Bryan was also unavailable so midfielder Scott Robson was charged with the job of keeping goals out rather than creating them. The changes continued even after the warm up with Ryan Dunn having to withdraw late on through injuury, Matt Curnock deputising.

The first half hour was a whirlwind of action that saw four goals. Oldland settled into a decent tempo and took the lead on twelve minutes when Rendall cut inside and fired a shot into the corner of the net. Ashton wasted no time in equalising, Harry Walker finishing off a good passing move.

Ex-Oldland player Miles Allen then put the home side ahead on 28 minutes with a sliding finish. O's Paul Coles then went off with a rib injury, replaced by top scorer Tom Morgan up front; his first touch set up Rendall who grabbed his second a minute later after a scramble in the penalty box to make it 2-2, Jack Parker making absolutely sure the ball was in the net.

After the break, Ashton went ahead for the second time when Aaron Reed headed home but Oldland fought back again and for the third time in the match, the lead didn't last long. This time , it was Ashley Bernard up from the back who finished off another goalmouth scramble to make it 3-3.

With neither side settling for a draw, Oldland grabbed a sensational winner three minutes into stoppage time when Rendall completed his hat trick , sending the keeper the wrong way with a cool finish to settle the match.
