Oldland Abbotonians stretched their winning run to three games with a 3-0 victory over Almondsbury UWE at The Field today.

In a game spoilt by a strong wind, three second half goals from Karim Rendall, Jordan Greenwood and top scorer David Stone sealed the victory for the O's. They will now have to wait for Cheddar's result against Bishop Sutton tomorrow night to see what they need to do next Saturday to claim fourth spot.

O's made one change to the eleven that started against Hengrove Athletic on Saturday with Ross Jones coming in between the sticks in place of Josh Dempsey.

A blustery wind greeted the players after a 2pm rainstorm had softened the pitch a little ahead of kickoff. And Oldland started as strongly as that breeze with Tom Morgan having three half chances early on, all saved by keeper Matt Semple. In between times, Jones dealt well with a low skidding shot from Matt Baker, pushing it away for a corner.

But Oldland continued to push forward and wasted a couple of free kicks that were affected by the conditions. Almondsbury, beaten 3-1 by Oldland just last Wednesday, were offering the occasional threat through strikers Alex Bisp and Abraham Badru but Jones was rarely tested.

When he was called upon, he saved a Tauren Williams free kick that bounced awkwardly in front of him but he was helpless two minutes later when a header from Matthew Kemp thumped against the post and away to safety. The half closed with Morgan again being denied by Semple after breaking on the counter with Tom Welling.

The wind initially dropped after the break allowing for a little quality to shine through and when the first goal came on 56 minutes, it was an absolute beauty. David Stone crossed in from the right, Morgan flicked the ball on to Karim Rendall who took a touch and unleashed a spectacular volley into the net from outside the box. It made the striker the third player to reach double figures of goals this season, after no one did last term!

Rendall and Jack Parker in particular were looking menacing going forward and both players went close with efforts, as did Ali Bamford with a shot. Rendall then saw an effort cleared off the line from a corner as the game became one way traffic at times.

The second goal almost came via Welling who played a terrific 1-2 with Rendall but seeing Semple save his shot. The win picked up again late on, making judgement of clearances and strength of passing tricky for even the best of players.

Oldland went two up on 78 minutes from a corner. Stone swung the ball in, Ashley Bernard's first shot was blocked but Jordan Greenwood lashed home the rebound. The third goal came two minutes later and wrapped the game up for the visitors. Stone was brought down inside the box by captain Neil Bailey and Stone himself swept home the spot kick for his 19th goal of the campaign.

He so nearly made it 20 with a corner that swirled onto the crossbar late on and Semple thwarted Rendall with a save with his feet as Oldland looked to improve their goal difference but manager Dale Dempsey had to be satisfied with a 3-0 win that lifts the O's to fourth spot entering the last five days of the season.

Finally, a big thank you to Jade, Amy, Supriya, Nicky and Anneka from the Ladies team for coming out into the wild weather to cheer on the boys today. Thanks girls, it was really appreciated.
