Goals from David Stone and Tom Morgan followed by a third from defender Jordan Richards ensured Oldland's unbeaten run lengthened to five games, four of them wins, as the race for promotion took another twist. With defeats for Cheddar and Keynsham and Ashton & Backwell drawing at Portishead, it was a decent day of scorelines for the O's.
Manager Dale Dempsey went into the game missing another two players from the side that lined up against Chippenham Park nine days ago. Paul Coles and Lewis Parker were unavailable along with Ashley Bernard, joining the suspended Karim Rendall & Tom Welling. In addition, Ryan Ashwood, Gary Shorney and Sam Abraham were still injured meaning that Tommy Hutton and under-18's starlet Elliott Morris were drafted in as cover on the bench.
In front of the second biggest crowd of 162, Oldland kicked off and scored inside four minutes when Tom Morgan set up his strike partner David Stone for his 15th goal of the season. Morgan then got in on the act, scoring his 16th goal of a productive campaign on the twenty minute mark before Jordan Richards, up from his centre half position, added a third on 26 minutes. Sodbury keeper Glenn Murley had to react smartly to stop a back pass going in just before half time, a fourth would have killed the game by then.
The second half contained plenty of action but no more goals and at the final whistle, Oldland could celebrate a fantastic win against the league leaders who were on a good run of form themselves. Dempsey's side have taken thirteen points from a possible fifteen in March and now make the short trip to Almondsbury on Easter Monday.
