Goals from Tom Morgan and Karim Rendall gave Oldland the three points they needed to finish fourth against Wells at Castle Road.

Knowing nothing less than a win would do, Oldland produced a top performance right at the end of the season to cement fourth place and knock Cheddar down to fifth spot on goal difference. Wells themselves had started the day in pole position for the title but an incredible 6-0 win by Chipping Sodbury at Calne meant the City boys had to settle for the runners up spot.

Going into the game, Oldland boss Dale Dempsey shuffled his pack again making three changes to the side that beat Almondsbury 3-0 on Bank Holiday Monday. Josh Dempsey came back in for Ross Jones and Scott Robson was suspended after his red card v Cheddar so Josh Williams came in. Thirdly, there was a debut for Tom Warren at right back, coming in for the unavailable Tom Welling.

Dempsey was called into action inside the first thirty seconds, saving from close range before Will Justin in the Wells goal produced a superb save to deny Ashley Bernard. On seven minutes, Oldland took the lead when a long Ali Bamford throw was flicked on by Karim Rendall to Tom Morgan who headed home his 19th goal of the season.

The rest of the first half saw Wells have more of the possession but finding Dempsey in inspired form. A double save on nine minutes, the second of which pushed a follow up shot onto the post and away was sheer brilliance and was followed by another superb effort with his feet after 21 minutes; the keeper then produced another double save on 23 minutes to stop any equaliser.

Morgan had two chances before the break to reach 20 goals for the season but was off target with a shot and a header.

The second half started with Justin tipping a Rendall shot over before the striker then superbly fired in another long range effort that was pushed on to the bar by the keeper. Justin then injured himself saving a follow up effort from point blank range, an injury that meant there was a lengthy spell of stoppage time at the end.

Rendall was off target with a left footed shot from 25 yards but the game opened up more as news filtered through that Sodbury were taking Calne apart. Before the start of play, there needed to be a six goal swing in goal difference for Sodbury to snatch the title from Wells and word quickly spread that Calne had conceded a fifth goal. This meant that Wells had to score to win the league and O's exploited the panic perfectly.

After Rendall had seen Simon Gerrish clear an effort off the line, in the fifth minute of time added on Oldland won the match. Morgan flicked the ball on to strike partner Rendall who fired home a superb second for his 12th of the season.

Eight minutes of stoppage time were played before the final whistle went. Scenes of muted celebrations from both sides as Wells saw their title hopes go up in smoke but still won promotion; for Oldland, the win secures fourth spot and hopefully, a promotion of their own.
