The O's struck three times in each half with debutant Cash Vinall, Josh Dempsey and David Stone on the mark in the first half. Stone scored a second with Matt Curnock and Scott Robson adding late finishes to keep the O's in the hunt for promotion.
After Saturday's disappointing home defeat to Portishead, manager Dale Dempsey made four changes to his starting eleven for tonight's clash with the bottom side. Out went the unavailable Jordan Richards, Karim Rendall and Lewis Parker with Josh Williams taking a spot on the bench. In came Tom Hutton, Ashley Bernard, Matt Curnock and 17-year-old midfielder Cash Vinall for his full debut.
Kicking down the slope in the first half, it only took Oldland thirteen minutes to get off the mark, and that was with their fifth opportunity of the game. Josh Dempsey (twice), David Stone and Scott Robson all had sighters of goal but eventually, the opener came. Stone broke into the box and pulled the ball back from the byline to allow Vinall to slide home from close range.
Skipper Stone was also the architect for the second goal. Again, the attacker whipped the ball in from the left flank and Josh Dempsey glanced a header into the corner of the net. Dempsey then went close to a second, hooking the ball over his shoulder and just wide.
Oldland's third goal was a defensive disaster for Bishop Sutton. The keeper took a quick free kick but with the defender not spotting it had been taken, Stone nipped in to score what will be his easiest goal of the season. Ali Bamford, who scored a pearler recently against Corsham Town, almost scored an even better one but his long range effort cannoned off the crossbar. Dempsey then went close again before half time with a header that was too high.
Keeper Tommy Hutton had been largely untroubled aside from one nervy moment when he saved at the feet of a Sutton attacker but twice the hosts came close to pulling a goal back as they attacked down the hill in the second half. But as quickly as hopes of a comeback came, they disappeared as Oldland grabbed a fourth goal on 61 minutes. Jack Parker was fouled outside the box but as everyone waited for a whistle that never came, Stone continued and slotted past the keeper to make it 4-0.
Stone then came close to a hat trick but curled a free kick wide so when the O's won another free kick for a foul by ex-O Paul Comley, Matt Curnock hit a superb set piece right into the corner for 5-0. Jordan Greenwood was next to go close after a barnstorming run that ended with an effort that hit the stanchion.
With ten minutes remaining, the goal of the game came. and the final one of the night. Scott Robson hit a peach of a shot that the home keeper could only push into the roof of the net. Late on, Robson came close to a second and Curnock shot at the keeper before finally Hutton claimed a deserved clean sheet, saving with his legs from Rafael Waugh.
