With Jordan Greenwood unavailable, there was a season's debut for Ashley Bernard in the back four.
The first half hour was lacking in chances with the visitors the better side. Josh Dempsey made one good save down low before finally the O's woke up and created a couple of good chances. Tom Morgan fired over from a narrow angle as did Josh Williams two minutes later when he pounced on an Ali Bamford shot that had been parried by visiting keeper George Dempsey.
Dempsey then made a superb tip over save from a Jordan Richards header then watched as Morgan again blasted over from a tight angle.
The second half offered little improvement to the small crowd who had braved a drizzly, dank night. A triple sub from home manager Dale Dempsey saw the introduction in attack of Connor Davies, Ryan Ashwood and Jack Parker but in truth, it made little difference although Davies shot over from a good position.
Josh Dempsey saved well with his feet with three minutes to go and in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Sutton hit the bar from a corner as they threatened to snatch an unilkely victory.
