The Colts were unlucky to lose 3-2 against AFC Mangotsfield at the weekend in what was a very strange afternoon from start to finish.
The game was moved for the hosts usual pitch due to a double booking so The Os found themselves at King George V, Downend where nets were up but having sub-let the pitch from Fishponds there were neither changing rooms, showers, toilets or water available. Then several lads came up to the boys asking if we were Mangotsfield as they were due to be playing for them today! Manager Jamie discreetly pointed out to the ringers their team was the one on the other side of the pitch...
Having weathered an early storm, Oldland went behind to a soft goal but equalised shortly afterwards. Then in a moment of controversy after a soft penalty was awarded, Stretch reached upwards and tipped the spot kick onto the bar - saved! The crowd went wild, both of them!
The game continued and was very even with both sides having plenty of chances. Stretch saved another worldy with a fine tip again on to the bar (he does like the bar that boy!) but then Mangotsfield won it late on. A long range free kick from former O Zak Zebek into the bottom corner and then a lob over Stretch from a through ball saw the boys unluckily lose 3-1
A good game to watch and some decent performances.
