New First Team Manager

Admin 115 May 2017 - 12:19

Management Team confirmed

We are delighted to announce that, after reviewing the applications and interviewing a short list, Scott Armstrong has accepted the role of first team manager of Oldland Abbotonians with immediate effect.

Scott has an outstanding footballing pedigree. He grew up playing as a goalkeeper for Southampton FC's Academy in the same side as Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott before moving to Bristol City and then on to Everton as a first year professional. In search of regular football he moved back to Bristol, working under Paul Trollope during his time at Rovers. Having good semi professional experience, Scott has played in the Southern League for both Frome Town and Chippenham Town and understands what it takes to achieve promotion in both Western League divisions having achieved this with both Welton Rovers and Frome Town.

As a manager, he had a spell as joint manager at Radstock Town FC before moving to Bishop Sutton and also been non-league scout for Southern League clubs. In terms of coaching, Scott holds the FA level 2 qualification and also a UEFA B Goalkeepers licence. He started coaching career early whilst playing at Everton at Blackpool FC's Centre of Excellence and on coming back to Bristol helped coach Rovers youth keepers with Steve Book and Ryan Clarke so fitted very well with the club's aim of maximising our relationship with the youth section and bringing more home grown players into the senior squads whilst also strengthening from a good knowledge of senior, established players that may become available at this level..

Scott commented on his appointment "I am pleased that this has been sorted early as it will allow me to get my side and plans in place ahead of the summer break" Training dates and the initial schedule of friendly matches have already been organised and are on the club website.

Scott will be assisted by Ian Milton (Mille) who was also with him at Bishop Sutton. Millie is very well known to everyone at Oldland from his previous links with our youth section and a successful spell managing the Reserves with Bob Clarke some years ago. His vast array of contacts in and around the local area make him an ideal choice to assist Scott.
