Oldland Abbotonians are sad to announce the passing this morning of long time friend of the club and supporter Geoff Bryant.
In his youth Geoff had a short spell at Bristol City before a playing career which included clubs such as Made For Ever and a long involvement with Deerswood Youth football club who later merged with Oldland. It was as assistant manager at Bristol Manor Farm where he truly showed his fierce style and leadership skills working with John Black at the then Western League club until 2008 sharing some great days. Away from football Geoff had been the bar steward at St Anne’s Board Mills Club and latterly at the Bristol & West Social Club on The Portway which then lead to him becoming involved with Avonside Court who became Rockleaze Rangers, managing them and attracting a core of young players to the club over a couple of years before the closure of that ground.
In his later years he became a familiar figure at Oldland, manning the players entrance and encouraging the team, at every game knowing people from his long football career and always full of a story of players he had played with or managed.
Geoff passed away this morning Saturday 4 April with his family after a short battle with cancer and after suffering with Parkinsons for a number of years. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Oldland and the wider Bristol football community.
We will share funeral arrangements when known but for now, our thoughts are with his family - RIP Geoff we love you x
