Oldland Abbotonians would like to remind everyone that the club is hosting a special match today in support of well known local football legend Des Beresford and with the match proceeds going to St Davids Hospice Care.
Des has played against most of us over the years, be it for St Phillips Marsh on a Saturday or Lebeq on a Sunday and is one of the best known faces on the local circuit. Towards the end of his playing career he helped set up junior side Bristol Central Youth FC in 2000 with Jimmy Brown and other committed parents with a view to putting something back in and that club has grown to now have several sides in different age groups.
Organised by nephews Ryan and Ashley Bernard the match has featured on local radio this week, including a mention on Geoff Twentyman's show, and it is hoped that there will be crowd of 200 or more at the ground with food, drink and music available throughout the day. Des' opponents of Ex-pros will be managed by former England legend Ledley King and captained by former Rovers and City player Danny Coles.
