Severnvale 3 - 2 Oldland Abbotonians Blues (Cup fixture)
By Kevin Wichard
Fergie time results in narrow loss
A disappointing result this afternoon even though today’s game was the best performance by the Blues this season.
After previous disappointing results and displays, the Blues finally produced the kind of performance that coaches Simon and Kevin knew they were capable of.
The Blues were by far the better team and deservedly took the lead with Harrison Isaacs cool finish from outside the box.
Although the Blues defence was strong, the midfield worked as a unit and the the attackers producing numerous opportunities, a rare mistake allowed Severnvale to equalise shortly before halftime.
In fairness, the score should of been 5-1 but with their goalkeeper making some great saves and a few misplaced shots, the scores were 1-1 at halftime.
The 2nd half started well and the Blues continued to run the game. After continuing to press forward, Ben Darke scored a terrific curling shot from the right side of the 18yd box that completely flummoxed Severnvales goalie.
With 5 minutes left and Severnvale pressing, the scores were level and the game was heading to penalties.
Unfortunately, there was a twist at the end. With the 80 minutes up and the whistle in the refs mouth, an additional 2 minutes were added which resulted in Severnvale scoring the winner to stun the Blues.
The Blues were rightly disappointed after all their hard work but they should be proud of the performance they produced. It was an incredible improvement from previous matches and if they keep this up, they will continue to improve.
MOM today was awarded to Stefan Mills and Ben Hawkins. Both produced dominant displays and deserved to be on a the winning team.
