The Blues turned up on a lovely spring day to find the pitch in reasonably good state. With Severnvale having enough players for the match to proceed, a bit of a lecture was needed by manager Simon Isaacs to ensure the players were not over confident. It was still going to need concentration and a will to win. We set up 3-5-2 and controlled the game from the start. Stefan Mills was calm and controlled with the ball, Ben Darke won every header and never let anyone past and Matt Sowerby marauded about the pitch like an assasin. Ben Hawkins made a couple of saves to try and look like he was involved. The midfield 5 grew into the game eventually finding their passing. Alex Williams, Josh Grey and Oli Box were working hard but Severnvale were happy to sit back in numbers and just smack the ball away. The opposition's crossbar took a pounding and we just couldn't get the ball in the net and at half time the score was 0-0. The half time team talk asked the boys to continue with the effort but make the Severnvale goalie work more and to be more clinical. The second half continued with the Blues having even more of the ball as Severnvale sat ever deeper and started to tire. Matthew and Harrison Isaacs were linking up well, Blake Thornell controlled the middle and Jack Moore getting more of the ball. Josh Toy and George Slavin battled well and rarely lost a challenge. Our best chance was a goal mouth scramble that we couldn't finish. With 10 mins to go, Simon was pacing the line willing someone to just bury it. Severnvale started to lose their discipline and argue amongst themselves which signalled we needed to really go for it. A bit of luck was all we needed and eventually it came from the boot of Oli Box. Not for the first time this season, he curled a corner into the far corner. This deflated the opposition and the chance was there to get another. This duly happened when Jack Moore was tripped in the box and the calm Ben Darke buried the penalty. The game was seen out and the boys could celebrate their first win. A real boost for the boys and with more composure in front of goal the scoreline would have reflected our dominance. The boys need to take this win into the last few games. A couple of points the boys need to take from the game is that they respect the refs decision whether it is right or wrong, and that we don't lower ourselves to the opposition with bad language. MOM was awarded to Matt Sowerby and Ben Hawkins.
