Yate 3 - 2 Oldland Abbotonians Blues
By Kevin Wichard
In a game completely dominated by the Blues, the coaches and parents were left scratching their heads as to how the Blues lost today.
The Blues had the vast majority of possession and outplayed Yate but it was the lack of conviction in front of goal that led to them being 2-0 down at the break.
The Blues had been in this position before and knew that a comeback was achievable, a comeback made more difficult when they conceded a third goal shortly after the restart.
This was the kick they needed and after having few efforts on goal, Ben Darke
tried his luck from long range and what a goal it was.....comeback on.
Shortly after, Blake Thornell
tried the same and with his left foot, scored an equally brilliant goal from 30 yards.
With 20 minutes left, the Blues continued to press for what would of been a deserved point, peppering the opponents with shots, crosses and long range efforts.
Alas, it wasn’t to be and the Blues left the the field at the final whistle feeling deflated, knowing that having outplayed their opponents, they should have won.
Having plenty of possession is one thing but the Blues need to up their game in front of goal, they need to creat more chances, be more direct and press the opponents defense with urgency and commitment.
MOM today was awarded to Blake Thornell
. This was by far Blake’s best game for the Blues. He was strong on & off the ball, his distribution was excellent and he totally ran the show today.
