Oldland Abbotonians Blue's 3 - 5 Chilcompton
By Kevin Wichard
Game of two halves on a wet afternoon
With the Blues dominating the 1st half, the end result was disappointing for everyone today.
The blues started well with Josh Payne scoring his 1st of the season after 5 minutes. Oliver Box's excellent throughball enabled Josh to smartly beat his marker and score with a fine left footed shot.
With the blues taking control of the game, they were hit by a surprise attack by Chilcompton, which resulted with the Scores being level after 15 minutes.
With Jack Moore
winning a corner after 20 minutes, Oliver Box scored direct from the corner flag with a curling cross/shot.
, Matt Sowerby
and Stefan Mills
worked well together in defence, with Ben Darke
slotting into the back three when required.
At half time the blues were in a confident mood knowing that if they continued to play like they did in the first half, the game would be theirs.
Unfortunately, the tide turned and Chilcompton upped their game scoring 4 goals in 20 minutes.
The blues were dejected, being in total control of the 1st half and now trailing 2-5 was hard to accept.
For all his hard work today, Josh Grey
deservedly got his goal, with Josh Payne's through ball leaving Josh one on one with keeper, he finished well with a finely taken goal from inside the box.
This gave the boys a lift and although they kept pushing, the final whistle blew.
The boys came off at the end dejected and confused. "We shouldn't of lost that game", "How did we lose that" echoed throughout the team.
This was a learning curve today, for all their hard work in the 1st half, the blues need to ensure that they don't take their feet off the gas regardless of the scoreline.
MOM today was awarded to Harrison Isaacs
. His work rate was tremendous today and was exactly the kind of display we expect of him as the captain.
