Season opener goes with a BANG!!
Floodlight failure leads to match being abandoned shortly before the hour mark
A tough start to the season saw the Under 18s travel to The Corinium Stadium for the second season in a row in the Preliminary Round of the FA Youth Cup. Cirencester's intentions were set out from the start as their front two showed their pace to create a chance within the first minute.
Oldand struggled to build up to the pace of the game in the opening half hour, not helped by some tough tackling from the opposition when an opportunity to attack came. As such, the team found itself two goals behind at the break and with a mountain to climb, although they were starting to get into the game more.
The second half started much as the first had and the hosts struck early again to increase their advantage. But with the hour mark approaching and personnel changes in the offing, a muffled bang from the switch room was promptly followed by six of the eight floodlight clusters going out - followed shortly by the remaining two.
Efforts by the home side to rectify the situation were fruitless, and the referee decided to abandon the match with 56 minutes played.
Following submissions to the FA from both teams and the referee, the FA Youth Council has decided that the fixture will be replayed in its entirety in the week commencing Monday 11 September.
