Oldlands hopes of avoiding relegation lie in the balance after an unlucky 1-0 reverse to fellow strugglers Marine Academy Plymouth,a result that secured MAP's safety. The match summed up Oldands season as it was a decent performance that created numerous chances but Oldland once again failed to score the amount of goals that their performance warranted. The first chance fell to MAP when dangerous midfielder Sam Drewery fired a free kick straight at Oldland keeper Stella Koutsikou. After weathering a strong MAP start Oldland started to dictate the pace of the game but MAP keeper Claire Squires made a fantastic double save from Oldland skipper Jess Britton. After 15 minutes striker Jess Cole chipped narrowly over the bar as Oldlands pressure increased. They did have a scare on 25 minutes however as MAP had their only worthwhile chance of the first half but Koutsikou pushed a stinging long range effort onto the post. This did not deter the Abbots though as first,Kirsty Mitchell curled just wide then Lisa Fletcher and Jade Scammell combined to open up the MAP defence but the latter scuffed her shot wide. It took just two minutes into the second half for MAP to score the decisive goal when Drewery was awarded too much time on the edge of the Oldland box and she promptly smashed the ball past a helpless Koutsikou in goal. Although neither team was now creating much it was Oldland once again that had the better chances and the introduction of striker Sarah Price pepped up the Oldland attack.Firstly Cole wriggled past a couple of defenders in the MAP box and cut the ball back to Britton who shot wide before a superb flowing move through midfield enabled Scammell to shoot wide.Oldlands best chance of the game fell to Scammell on 75 minutes but she shot straight at Squires when through 1-on-1 before blasting wide near the end from 20 yards. Ultimately,Oldland can be proud of their efforts this season but their general play deserved more goals than was delivered and this may be what eventually costs them.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH---STELLA KOUTSIKOU--A confident performance that took any pressure off of her defence.
