Report

Oldland welcomed a Welton Rovers team who were 3 points ahead in the table and so the game was to be a preverbal 3 pointer.

On a heavy pitch Oldland started brightly and carved out a couple of attacks that resulted in the ball being crossed from dangerous positions but no real threat on goal materialised, but on 20 minutes following some good play down the right flank the ball fell to Matt Brown whose shot was parried by the visiting keeper only for the ball to fall to the alert Jack Camm who fired the rebound home. Welton responded with a rasping effort from 20 yards that as well saved by Shame Mason but Oldland continued to take the initiative and only a fine save from the Welton keeper prevented Conor Britton extending the Oldland lead. The first half finished with Oldland only having a single goal lead to show for a determined performance that showed their young side are well capable of competing when they need to.

The second half was a much more even affair with both teams largely cancelling each other out, but with only a one goal deficit Welton pressed forward looking for an equaliser and in the final 15 minutes they hit the post and had a strong penalty claim turned down. However, despite some late pressure Oldland held out for a hard fought victory that was once again based on a solid defensive play from a back four of Mayson Evans, Tom Seery, Rob (Berty) Smith and Mike Baker.
